The alleged God of War game that is said to be set in the Greek mythology is rumored to have had its release postponed to the year 2026.
During the latest episode of the Last of the Nintendogs podcast, co-host Jeff Grubb, who is known for his inside sources within the game industry, revealed that the release of the rumored Greek God of War project has been pushed into 2026. It looks like Sony Interactive Entertainment will be relying entirely on Sucker Punch Productions’ upcoming action-adventure title, Ghost of Yotei, as its first-party lineup during the Fall and holiday period.

Fellow insider Tom Henderson had recently said that the unannounced God of War spinoff features a 2.5D Metroidvania-style format and appears to be a smaller, side-project that explores series protagonist Kratos’ early years in ancient Greece.
Another report described the game as blending gameplay elements reminiscent of God of War and Blasphemous. According to the same source, this unannounced God of War title is set in ancient Greece and focuses on Kratos before his ascension to godhood, suggesting it will serve as a narrative prequel. A notable addition is the return of Deimos, Kratos’ brother, who hasn’t played a major role since God of War: Ghost of Sparta. The project is reportedly being overseen by Santa Monica Studio, the main developers of the franchise, with possible collaboration from Mega Cat Studios, the team behind Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into The Pit.
The first hints of this spin-off surfaced in March, 2025, when Jeff Grubb mentioned that a new God of War game, unrelated to the rumored remastered trilogy, was in development. He suggested that the story will delve into a younger Kratos’ dynamic with his father, Zeus, placing the game early in the Greek mythology era rather than the Norse storyline of recent entries.
